The Doorkeeper

“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out ” (John 10:3).

1. To the shepherd, the doorkeeper opens.
2. The sheep hear the shepherd’s voice.
3. The shepherd calls his own sheep by name.
4. The shepherd leads them out.

The Doorkeeper Opens

“To him the doorkeeper opens . . .” (John 10:3a).

The doorkeeper is surely the Holy Spirit.
Below is an analysis of how the Holy Spirit and Jesus save someone. The same truths can be applied to how someone can go into the second, third and fourth phases of knowing God. Salvation is the first phase.
The Holy Spirit opens the door for Jesus Christ to save someone.

Jesus Speaks, the Sheep Hear His Voice

“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice . . .” (John 10:3a,b).

When the Holy Spirit opens the door, a person can hear Jesus’ voice.
At salvation, Jesus speaks to someone, letting them know they need to be saved; that they need God and Jesus Christ to receive salvation, the greatest miracle.

The Helper at Salvation

Jesus said, “I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper” (John 14:16).
At salvation, Jesus prays to the Father, who gives someone the Holy Spirit. God makes their spirit person alive! Amen!

Jesus Calls His Sheep by Name

“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name . . .” (John 10:3a,b,c).

When Jesus speaks to someone, He calls them by name.
Salvation is when a person has a one-on-one, face-to-face encounter with Jesus Christ.
Jesus calls to them, by name, and they respond.
They receive Jesus as Lord and savior.
They are born again.
They go from death to life.
They receive eternal life.

Those who do not Hear the Gospel

If a person never hears the gospel, they can just easily be saved as someone who does.
They give their life to God.
They ask God into their life.
They are saved.
They have the encounter with God. They may call Him “my Lord, master, God . . . my savior, my friend,” or similar.
God has made it simple and easy to know Him.
Salvation and every phase of knowing Him are simple and easy.
These are ways God reveals His love for mankind – and how He has justified Himself to the world.
A relationship with Him is simple and easy.
Man is without excuse if they do not know Him.
Believers are without excuse if they do not go deeper and receive from Him.
He is always available, all the time . . . for all eternity.
He has made it very clear and obvious that there is a God and that every person needs Him.

Jesus Leads Them Out

“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out ” (John 10:3).

4. The shepherd leads them out (John 10:3d).

Jesus leads His sheep out of the world into the glorious kingdom of heaven.
The Holy Spirit opens the door, which is Jesus.
The sheep hear Jesus’ voice.
Jesus calls them by name.
Jesus leads them out.
Jesus is the shepherd, the leader. He is our master.
Now that Jesus is glorified in heaven, God has sent the Holy Spirit, so that every person can have a full relationship with Jesus Christ.
